NEW DELHI: In a revamp exercise of its top management, telecom service provider Vodafone India has appointed Sunil Sood as its new chief operating officer (COO) and Sanjoy Mukherjee as the chief commercial officer (CCO).

The changes are effective from March 1, an official of the company told IANS.

The company has also roped in Rajiv Kohli as director of the North Zone, Sanjay Warke for East Zone, Rohit Adya for West Zone and B.P. Singh for South Zone.

Kumar Ramanathan, the current chief marketing officer, has been moved on to the Africa Middle East and Asia Pacific (AMAP) region.

In an internal communication issued by Vodafone India managing director and chief executive officer Marten Pieters, Vodafone has said the changes are made for "a better balance between operational intensity and the need to focus on emerging areas."

The firm, which has almost 148.6 million subscribers as of Dec 31, got a huge relief earlier this year with the Supreme Court ruling in its favour in the Rs.11,218 crore ($2.2 billion) tax dispute case.

A day after the Supreme Court announced its verdict to cancel 122 licences issued in 2008, the firm had also been the first operator to start initiatives to attract customers.

It launched a promotion campaign in newspapers with the tagline -- Everybody's welcome to the network that you can depend upon -- asking customers to switch over to its network, using the mobile number portability (MNP) service.
